Activity 1 Student Procedure

1. You have been hired by Stephanie’s Smooth Designs as a Web designer. Stephanie, the owner, has created a simple Web page for her business so that she may advertise her company on the Internet. Boy, does she need some pointers!

2. Click this hyperlink to view Stephanie’s Web page: studentactivity1.htm

3. Using your knowledge of good Web design, decide what is wrong with Stephanie’s Web page. Decide how you could design the Web page effectively by making the necessary changes on Stephanie’s Web page. Keep in mind the text is not linked to anything, but should be viewed as if it were a navigational button. You will learn how to link in the next activity. Look carefully at the color scheme and navigational scheme.

4. Print out the Web page and write what corrections you would make and why at the bottom of the paper. You will need a gel pen for this activity.

5. On a clean sheet of paper, draw a practice version of Stephanie’s Web Page. You may include a new title, and use colored pens that describe the color scheme you will use for the background color and links/buttons. You may also use simple shapes for any buttons/navigational elements for the Web page.

6. Staple your practice Web page to the printed copy of Stephanie’s Web page, and turn in to your instructor.
