Creation of a Web Page Including
Interactivity
Hands-On Activity:
1. Create a new Microsoft Word document by clicking
the Start button in
the bottom left corner of the computer screen, and choose Microsoft
Word from the Programs menu.
2. We will first add a background to the Web page. Choose
background from the format menu, and choose a light color.
3. The title of the Web page will be Stephanie’s
Smooth Designs. Use
Times New Roman font, 18 point font size, bold, centered, and choose
a
dark colored font color. Remember the rules regarding the color scheme
and families of colors.
4. Insert a suitable computer graphic into the Web
page by choosing Picture
from the Insert menu, then clipart. If the picture is too large, double
click
on it, choose size tab from the Format Picture dialog box. Resize using
the bottom arrow in the scale section.
5. Now we will practice inserting a text hyperlink
in the Web page. One
way is to type a Web address into the Web page. Since this activity
is
just for practice, we will type the following Web address on the left
side
of the document: http://www.yahoo.com
then press enter.
7. Next we will practice creating a hyperlink with the
object we inserted
into the Web page. Select or highlight the object, then choose Hyperlink
from the Insert menu. You will notice the Insert Hyperlink dialog box.
In the area under Type the file or Web page name, type the following
Web address: http://www.google.com
then click the OK button.
8. You say you like email? Let’s insert an email
picture from clipart at the
bottom of the Web page, which is where most email links are found on
Web pages. The universal symbol for email is an envelope, yet for this
activity you may choose an envelope or a mailbox. Choose Picture from
the Insert menu, then clipart, and find a picture suitable for email.
Select
the picture; choose Hyperlink from the Insert menu, and type in your
email address. If you do not have an email address, use the following
email address: [email protected]
and notice how the words “mail
to” were added before the address. This is normal. Choose the
OK
button. Once the email address is inserted and the user clicks on the
email picture, the default email program on the user’s computer
will
automatically open, and the email address will be pasted into the “To”
section of the email. After all information is completed regarding the
email, it is then ready to be sent.
9. Save your Word file by choosing Save as from the
File menu. Save the
file as studentactivitytwo.
10. Another method of including interactivity in a Web
page is by using
Microsoft Excel. Open Microsoft Excel by clicking the Start button,
and
choosing Microsoft Excel from the Programs menu.
11. In cell A1, type Stephanie’s Smooth
Designs in the same font, size, color, and style as in the
Word file. In cell A3, type March profit. Type the
following in the corresponding cells: A4-April profit,
A5-May profit, A6-June profit, B3-$2,000,
B4-$2,150, B5-$2,250, B6-$2,600.
11. Save the Excel file as smoothdesignsprofit. Highlight
all of the
information in the file, and choose Copy from the Edit menu. Open your
studentactivitytwo Word file.
12. Place the cursor or insertion point underneath the
http://www.yahoo.com
hyperlink. Choose Paste Special from the Edit menu, click beside Paste
Link, select As Microsoft Excel Object In, then click OK.
13. Notice that when you change information in the Excel
file, the Word file
changes automatically as well. Practice this by changing cell B3 to
$4,000. Save the Excel file, open the Word document
again, and view
the changes.
14. Save the changes to the Excel file and Word file.
Now we will save the
Word file as a Web page by choosing Save as Web page from the File
menu. Save the Web page as studentactivityweb.
15. In order to view your Web page on the Internet,
open Internet Explorer,
or the Internet browser downloaded onto your computer, then choose
Open from the File menu. Choose studentactivityweb.
Congratulations!
You have just created a Web page that includes interactivity! To change
the data on the Web page, you must open the original Excel and Word
file, make the changes, save the files, then resave the Word file as
a Web
page.
