Subtopic 3: Gamma Streptococci

The group D streptococci include Streptococcus bovis and Streptococcus equinus. They can be found as normal intestinal flora. They are usually gamma streptococci. The group D streptococci share a number of characteristics with the genus Enterococcus, including the group D antigen. The group D streptococci can be involved in bacterial endocarditis, urinary tract infections, abscesses, and wound infections.
