Topic Introduction

Certain standards are established to provide the information needed for computing the level of contamination in hydraulic fluids, in order to keep these systems functional and reliable. The following activities will give the students a basic knowledge of the contaminating particles, the proper procedures for sample preparation, calculation methods for contamination levels, etc. These activities may be performed as presented in sequence, or separately, in a "mix-and-match" format.

Each activity will include an assessment section, with an overall assessment at the conclusion of the module. These activities include:

1. Drawing or collecting samples - Activity 1.1
2. Preparing a sample for counting - Activity 1.2
3. Counting and calculating procedures, using special worksheets - Activity 1.3
